About the Role
We are seeking a driven, full-time Assistant Project Engineer who is ready to take on big responsibilities in a small, passionate team. In this role, you will work on projects ranging from $50,000 to $5 million, managing energy upgrades from start to finish — including lighting, HVAC, controls, building envelope improvements, and compliance audits (ASHRAE Level I and II).
Much of our work is on-site in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some travel (20%–30%) may be required.
Responsibilities
Project Engineering and Management Support
- Conduct site visits to assess and document existing building conditions
- Collaborate with engineers to design high-value energy-saving measures
- Develop project reports, including audit reports, scopes of work and bid packages
- Assist with subcontractor bid evaluations and selections
- Help manage project budgets, schedules, and on-site execution
- Support client communications, ensuring satisfaction and successful outcomes
- Bridge between field realities and engineering design to meet or exceed energy saving goals
- Collect, review and run calculations based on large data sets
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field, preferably engineering related (EE, ME, CE)
- Prior professional work experience
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Customer-focused and professional demeanor
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Microsoft Project
- Willingness and ability to travel regionally and nationally
- Clean DMV record
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work on-site in commercial buildings, sometimes in tight, enclosed, or elevated spaces (e.g., mechanical rooms, rooftops, crawlspaces)
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8+ hours per day)
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
Bonus Skills (Nice to Have)
- Engineering background (mechanical, electrical, chemical, or related fields)
- Experience conducting compliance audits (ASHRAE Level I or II)
- Familiarity with energy efficiency technologies and retro-commissioning (RCx)
- Experience with control system programming or building automation systems
- Knowledge of facilities maintenance practices and standards
- Strong data entry and calculation skills, especially for energy modeling
- Coding experience
- Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and in various indoor/outdoor conditions
